Eternal’s Profit Triples as Quick-Commerce Momentum Builds
Eternal, the parent company behind food-delivery giant Zomato and quick-commerce platform Blinkit, has delivered one of its strongest quarters yet. The company reported a near three-fold jump in Q1 FY27 profit, reaching ₹92 crore, even as the broader Indian funding market saw a relatively quiet week for new deals. The results underline how quick commerce has shifted from a cash-burning experiment to a genuine profit driver for India’s consumer internet sector, with Blinkit’s rapid-delivery network increasingly carrying the group’s growth story.
Away from India, the picture in global markets is more mixed. The US economy slowed to a 1.5% annual growth rate in the second quarter, with core inflation running at 3.3% in June. Even so, corporate earnings have offered some reassurance: Amazon beat second-quarter expectations, powered by an accelerating Amazon Web Services cloud business. Analysts note that surging demand for AI infrastructure has widened the US trade deficit even as it fuels tech-sector earnings, leaving investors divided on whether the AI boom is the next big growth engine or an overheated bet. Together, the results paint a picture of a global economy where corporate resilience is outpacing broader macro softness — a theme likely to dominate markets through the rest of 2026.
